With 68,000 students, two-thirds of whom are women and two-thirds of whom are African, it was the second-largest university in South Africa in 2018, trailing only the massive multi-campus University of South Africa. Economics and management, education, engineering, law, health sciences, religion, humanities, and natural and agricultural science are among the eight faculties.
Multilingualism in English, Afrikaans, and Setswana is a university requirement, with classroom interpreters assisting where necessary.
The Centre for Space Research is one of the five Research Centres of Excellence, while tourism and reformation theology are among the ten research divisions. The Farm Labor and General Health (FLAGH) initiative work to improve rural households’ nutrition, while The Centre for Community Law provides legal assistance.

NWU application requirements

The North-West University (NWU) Management has indicated that all Applicants should follow these Admission Requirements before applying for admission.

The applicants who are beginning a new qualification must upload all relevant documents, which usually include the following:

Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

Application Deadline: Applications are accepted from March to September 30 each year (beyond this date, applications will not be considered; please apply during the application period before the closing date to guarantee your application is reviewed.)

Closing Dates for North-West University Applications

The deadline for non-selection courses is September 30th.

The deadline for all additional selection courses is July 31.

Obtain a student identification number (Go to step 2 if you already have one)
Go to the new application platform for online applications.
Select ‘New application’ from the drop-down menu.
Fill out all of the fields on the ‘Create new student number’ page.
