About George Whitefield College

  • Candidates for the Reformed Evangelical Anglican Church of South Africa ministry were trained at the Bible Institute of South Africa in Kalk Bay in the early 1970s when the George Whitfield College was founded.
  • Bishop Joe Bell, then the governing bishop of the Church of England in South Africa, spearheaded the establishment of George Whitefield College in 1989, and its founding Principal was David Broughton Knox, who had previously served as Principal of Moore Theological College in Sydney for 27 years.
  • In 1997, GWC partnered with Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, currently known as North-West University, and Dr. Seccombe, a NWU external New Testament professor. Until 2010, the majority of GWC students were also NWU students, and although studying at GWC with GWC’s curriculum, they were eligible to graduate from NWU with a Bachelor of Theology, a Bachelor of Arts Honours, and a Master of Arts. Since January 2010, GWC has provided its own service.
