About University of Stellenbosch
- Stellenbosch University (Universiteit Stellenbosch in Afrikaans) is a public research university in Stellenbosch, a town in South Africa’s Western Cape province. Together with the University of Cape Town, which obtained full university status on the same day in 1918, Stellenbosch is the oldest university in South Africa and the oldest existent university in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- The application window for undergraduate qualifications (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas & degrees), Honors degrees & postgraduate diplomas, and Master’s & doctorate qualifications at Stellenbosch University is currently open for the current academic year.
- If you want to apply to the Stellenbosch University SU for undergraduate or postgraduate programs, you must do so through the Stellenbosch University online application portal.
- The application window is open for first-time Stellenbosch University applicants, Stellenbosch University students moving to a new qualification and/or specialization, and Stellenbosch University students changing to a new qualification and/or specialization. Students who completed a higher certificate or any other program and intend to continue with further undergraduate studies, as well as those who previously sought admission and were not awarded a place or who were provided a space but did not accept the offer and did not register.

Procedure for Applying to Stellenbosch University Online
- Simply fill out the Stellenbosch University Online Application Form and upload all required documentation to allow our administrative department to handle your application.
- Once all of the required costs have been paid, your application will be complete.
- Step 1: Obtaining a student identification number (start at step 2 if you already have one)
1. EDUCATE YOURSELF about all of Stellenbosch University’s programs. - 2. CHECK TO SEE IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IT TAKES TO BE ACCEPTED BY EACH FACULTY.
- 3. CONFIRM the deadlines:
- 31 MAY Applications close for the program MB, ChB in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
- 1 April: Applications open for financial assistance at Stellenbosch University.
- 30 June: Applications close for all undergraduate programs.
- 30 June: Residence applications close.
- 1 August: Applications open for NSFAS bursaries.
- 31 August: Applications close for Stellenbosch University financial assistance.
- 30 November: Applications close for NSFAS bursaries.
- 15 December: Applications close for Diploma in Public Accountability (Telematic Education).
- Step 2: Decide the program you want to watch.
- Because of the limited space available, some programs are more difficult to get into than others. You get to choose THREE programs.
- Even if you aren’t chosen for your first preference, you might be chosen for your second or third preference.
- Step 3: Fill out the application
- OPTION A: FILL OUT AN ONLINE APPLICATION
- Begin filling out your online application.
- Get your 8-digit password and username.
- Fill out the online form.
- APPLY ON PAPER (OPTION B)
- A printed application form can be obtained by calling 021 808 9111 or emailing info@sun.ac.za.
- Complete all needed fields and mail the form together with the other application documents to us before the deadline.
- If you submit both an online and a paper form application, we will only consider the online application.
- Step 4: Add supporting documents to your application.
IF YOU APPLY ONLINE, BE SURE TO UPLOAD YOUR DOCUMENTS TO YOUR ACCEPTANCE STATUS ONLINE BEFORE THE DEADLINE. - IF YOU ARE USING A PAPER FORM, INCLUDE ALL DOCUMENTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION IN THE Envelope.
- signed contract, evidence of payment of the R100 application fee, and certified copies of the supporting papers we request (like your academic results and faculty-specific non-academic forms, if applicable).
- Step 5: Fill in the blanks with the NBT.
- If you’re applying to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences or a law program, you’ll need to take the National Benchmark Test (NBT) by the end of June, as your NBT score will be used in the selection process.
Before you may register as a student at Stellenbosch University, you must take the NBT. - Step 6: Keep an eye on your application.
