How to Apply Wits online 2023-2024

Step 1

  • Visit to apply online.
  • A maximum of three programs may be applied for (order of choice does not matter).
  • If you apply to two programs in one Faculty, it is recommended that you apply to one program in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce, or Science).
  • Keep your alternatives open, especially if you’re applying to programs in faculties like Health Sciences or Engineering.
  • The duration of the program should not be entered. You are requesting admission to the first year of study.
  • For South African citizens, a non-refundable application cost of R100 is required, and for international citizens, a price of R700 is required.

Step 2

  • The University will send you an email acknowledging receipt of your application.
  • The acknowledgment letter will include a personal number (which will become your student number) as well as a contact person who you can contact if you have any questions.
  • All University correspondence will be accessible via the student self-service portal at
  • Regularly check the status of your application and complete tasks on the student self-service site.
  • On self-service, keep your contact information up to current.

Step 3

  • You can still upload supporting papers using the student self-service portal if you didn’t do so when you applied.
  • Log in using your personal number (not your T number) and your ID’s first six digits.
  • Matriculants Currently enrolled: Upload your Grade 11 final grades (no hardcopy required).
  • Already Matriculated? Upload certified copies of all of your matric/foreign school leaving certificates.
  • Other Higher Education Institutions: For ALL tertiary registrations, provide a certified copy of official academic records, including a statement/certificate of good behavior stamped by the institution’s registrar.
  • (Note that for GEMP candidates ONLY, interim, self-service generated results will be accepted for initial assessment purposes.)

Step 4

  • A temporary offer may be made to current matriculants (depending on self-reported Grade 11 results). Please note that some programs (interview/audition/NBT) have additional selection requirements.

  • Only after receiving final matric results may solid offers be confirmed.
  • Applicants who obtain a firm offer must proceed to to complete the registration process.
  • Each degree option is considered a separate application. It makes no difference what order you choose.
  • The self-service portal will reflect communication offering a solid place and information on the registration and orientation program, and registration and orientation details will be available on the Wits website.
  • Because space is limited, you may only accept one offer. To ensure your spot, you must react to the offer within a few days after receiving your offer letter/sms.
