  • The University’s aim is to prepare students for gainful employment through short-term projects. To accomplish this, the University has a competent faculty, well-qualified administrators, and a first-rate support team. The facilities are well-equipped, clean, and tastefully set up to sustain a lively, cheery, and welcoming atmosphere. The highest priority at the College is education quality. Students are accepted based on their ability to benefit, regardless of ethnicity, appearance, or creed.

  • The NWU Botanical Garden is located next to the North-West University’s Potchefstroom campus. It is nearly three hectares in size. With the exception of a few alien plants of botanical or therapeutic interest, the majority of the plants in the Botanical Garden are native. A segment of the garden is kept as a natural field garden around a man-made ridge, while the rest of the area is more rigorously controlled. In recent years, a variety of mammals, birds, amphibians, and fish have made the Botanical Garden their home, giving it a whole new dimension.
  • The NWU Botanical Garden was founded in 1962 by Dr W.J. Louw, a Botany instructor, who wanted to provide plant material for Botany practicals. The arrival of Dr D.J. Botha, a Botany lecturer in Systematics, in 1971 provided the impetus for the creation of a Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden blossomed during the 1970s under the direction of Mr Bert Ubbink, the first horticulturist and curator. Dr W.J. Louw officially opened the Botanical Garden on November 24, 1982.
  • The NWU Botanical Garden is run by the North-West University School of Environmental Sciences and Development. The Botanical Garden serves a variety of purposes for the School of Environmental Sciences and Development as well as the general public. The NWU Botanical Garden’s main activities include:
  •  Providing practical materials for student instruction.
    • Rare and endangered plant conservation; research and research support
    • Community education on important environmental issues.
