About nwu

  • The old University of North-West was a historically black university, with a majority of its students being black people from rural towns. Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education was a historically white university, with students who were mostly white Afrikaans people from Christian families. The Sebokeng Campus of Vista, a largely black university, was a third party, as were its workers and students.
  • The creation of North-West University (NWU) was both a great symbol of peace and nation-building and a highly effective gesture. The transition to the merged NWU has been one of the most effective and consistent higher education mergers in South Africa.
  • Since the merger, the NWU has established a healthy financial surplus every year, improved student pass rates, and increased enrolment.
