The North-West University (NWU) is a public research university in South Africa with campuses in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng, and Vanderbijlpark. The Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, which also had a branch in Vanderbijlpark, merged with the University of North-West (previously the University of Bophuthatswana) in 2004 to form the University of North-West.
North-West University has become one of South Africa’s largest universities, with the country’s third-largest student population as a result of the merger (full-time and distance education).

Opening and closing of admissions Date
For admission in 2023, applications start on May 1 and close on August 31, 2023.

Application Prerequisites

Things to keep in mind before applying to North-West University online:

To complete the application, you must have an email address.
You may not submit a hardcopy application after completing an online application.
Make sure you fill out the application completely (to avoid any delays from NWU).
Obtaining an NWU student number does not imply acceptance.
You will also be given a pin number to use in conjunction with your student number.

PROCESS OF APPLICATION ONLINE Please keep the following in mind:

Step 1: Obtaining a student identification number (start at step 2 if you already have one)

For online applications, go to the application portal.
Choose New application.
Go to Create a new student number and fill out all of the fields.
Please keep in mind that acquiring a student number does not mean your application is finished. Please complete and submit your application by following all of the processes mentioned below. Incomplete applications will not be processed by the University.

Step 2. Create PIN

Step 3: What would you like to learn about?

Fill in all of the blanks. Use the yearbooks to learn more about the credentials, delivery methods, and courses.

Step 4: Add supporting documents to your application.

Please upload the necessary supporting papers in order for us to assess your application:

Grade 12 results (or grade 11 results if grade 12 results are not yet available) or a copy of your matric certificate (if you have previously passed matric).
a photocopy of your ID
Additional paperwork for potential overseas students:
a copy of the relevant outcomes
a certified copy of your passport

Step 5: Send in your application

When you’re finished, make sure you click the Submit Application button to ensure that we receive your application.
