About Stenden University South Africa

  • Stenden South Africa is a South African higher education institution based in Port Alfred, in the Eastern Cape region. It is a branch campus of the Dutch Stenden University of Applied Sciences.
  • In 2002, Stenden South Africa opened its doors in what was then known as the Grand Hotel in Port Alfred. The hotel was modified to meet the needs of a university campus, and all hotel rooms are currently inhabited by students. EISS: The Educational Institute for Service Studies was the first name under which Stenden South Africa operated. When CHN University and Drenthe University amalgamated in 2008 to establish Stenden University, EISS became Stenden South Africa. Only public universities in South Africa are permitted to use the term ‘university,’ which is why the additive ‘South Africa’ was chosen.
