  • The North-West University Faculty of Theology practices theology on a Reformational basis. This means admitting that the Bible, God’s Word, was inspired by the Holy Spirit and is thus inspired and authoritative. This is the foundation upon which all paradigms (including our own) are constantly exposed to critical and reformative scrutiny, while also accommodating staff and students of various theological persuasions who value this Reformational foundation and inclusive approach.
  • The Faculty of Theology at North-West University is founded on Reformed beliefs. In this sense, it recognizes its historical ties to the 16th and 17th centuries, the RCSA Theological School, and the PU for CHE from 1869 to 2004. Acceptance of the Bible as God’s Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and authoritative is a requirement of the Reformed basis. In our practice of Theology as a science, we recognize and value the Reformed perspective on God and the written Word of God as God’s specific revelation.
  • The Bible — God’s specific revelation, in addition to his revelation in creation – is the subject of scientific inquiry. Through the illuminating action of the Holy Spirit, teaching-learning, research, and the application of competence are done on this revelation and in its light. God’s kingdom is seen as the orientational foundation on which Theology is practiced due to its central place and relevance in the Bible.
  • This Reformed foundation and ethos necessitate a continuous analytical, critical, and Reformed scientific study of all paradigms (including our own), as well as the study of other theological paradigms and traditions while accommodating staff and students of other theological persuasions who respect the Faculty of Theology’s Reformed foundation and inclusive approach.
  • Theology practice, teaching-learning, and research in the Faculty are adaptive and open to criticism, and they strive for effective and good changes and improvements. This adaptability and receptiveness extend not only to methodological and epistemological concerns but also to the use of scientific methods and technologies.
