Brief On Walter Sisulu University 

  • Walter Sisulu University (WSU) is a technology and science university in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, with campuses in Mthatha, East London (Buffalo City), Butterworth, and Komani (Queenstown). It was founded on 1 July 2005 as a result of a merger between Border Technikon, Eastern Cape Technikon, and the University of the Transkei.
  • The Higher Education Act No. 101 of 1997, as modified, established Walter Sisulu University (WSU) on July 1, 2005.
  • The new institution was named after the late Walter Max Ulyate Sisulu, a close friend of Nelson Mandela in the South African liberation fight.
  • WSU was placed into management in October 2011 after the Council, Management, and WSU stakeholders requested it.
  • The Administration era concluded on April 30, 2014. Many new systems and processes have been deployed over the last two and a half years to help the university stabilize and reposition itself on a new path.
  • WSU is undergoing a major infrastructure overhaul, as well as an evaluation of the academic enterprise, ICT infrastructure, financial viability, and human resources.
  • On January 17, 2014, a new institutional law was published, and in May of the same year, a new council took over from the former administrator, Professor Lourens van Staden.
  • WSU will be a premier African comprehensive university focused on innovative educational, research, and community collaboration programs that are responsive to local, regional, and national development concerns, as well as continental and international imperatives.

  • The price ranges from R32 120 to R55 770. (this varies from degree to degree)
  • For books and stationery, budget around R6 050.

Requirements Needed

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or above
  • Must have good grades at your home school
  • 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale (GPAs under 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will require additional documents outlined in a section below)
  • When the program begins, you must be a sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • When applying to UCT, applicants must have completed at least three semesters of coursework (first-semester sophomores can apply).
  • Students with a Sophomore standing may not be able to enroll in several local university courses. For additional information, please contact your IES Abroad Representative.

  • Online registration is available at establishing a password and using your email address
  • After that, you will receive an email with a link to activate your account on the system.
    To activate your registration, click the link.
  • This procedure will return you to ROSS, where you must select Admission/Other (clicking the right button here is important)
  • After that, you’ll be able to enter the username and password you created in step one.
  • After you’ve finished your application, click the button to accept the terms and conditions and submit it.
  • You must pay the R100 application fee once you have submitted your application.
  • The system provides a number of possibilities.
  • If you pay your application fee at a bank, make a note of your application number on the deposit slip and email it to us.
  • We’ll process your application once you’ve completed the steps above, and you’ll be given a student number and login.
